After many years of wanting to visit India, this January I was thrilled to be going. My plans were to visit from January to March of this year, 2007 the Vijnana Kala Vedi Cultural Centre in Arnamula, just outside Cochi, Kerala, South India.
The night before going to India I was strangely terrified. While I don’t believe in fear mongering, I really shrugged off the advise given from friends.
I’d been told by different people things like: I would get sick and as a result loose so much weight I’d come home too skinny; that if I got hurt, there were no ambulances making getting help a challenge, that the poverty would be so over whelming I’d come home in the fist week.....I’d be gropped, watch the water, you’ll be mugged. Even one friend told me not to pay for my stay, as it could be a scam.
Was quite interesting getting off the plane in Cocchi, I had one moment of panic when the taxi wasn’t there.... but after the 3.5 hour taxi ride I arranged, I found this glorious little centre.
My stay there was full of amazing moments.... none of the things that I was warned about happened, though I did take a ride in an Ambulance but that was to get a ride home after a semenar on Ayurveda. Was an amazing time, I plan on going back to India in 2008 to visit the Real India, the Northerner will tell me.
....more on my visit later.
